This year the Long John Silver Trust have introduced the Pirates and Prejudice route. The route is based on the Trust’s Treasure Island Trail and prioritises Bristol’s literary and maritime connections in line with the Trust’s raison d’être. The route also focuses upon the Trust’s membership of the European Cultural Route “In the Footsteps of Robert Louis Stevenson – European Network”.
The Walk Fest is part of our collaboration with Bristol’s M Shed – an innovative and exciting flagship museum for Bristol, which features gallery space and a packed events schedule. The museum is all about Bristol and explores the city through time: its places, its people and their stories. Located on Prince’s Wharf beside the Floating Harbour in a dockside transit shed formerly occupied by Bristol Industrial Museum. The museum’s name is derived from the way that the port identified each of its sheds. M Shed is home to displays of some 3,000 artefacts.
Our collaborations don’t stop at Walk Fest. Throughout the school summer holidays we will be repeating Pirates & Prejudice every Tuesday on the following dates: – 30th July, 6th August, 13th August, 20th August and the 27th August.
And for the remainder of the year, we will also be leaning on our relationship with Bristol Radical History Group and offering an Abolition Walk every Thursday on the following dates: – 27th June, 25th July, 29th August, 26th September, 31st October and the 28th November.
The walks are free and to join anyone one of them please enrol on M Shed’s website. The walks start at M Shed’s main entrance on the quayside (between the cranes) and start at 11am, Pirates & Prejudice lasts about 90 minutes, and the Abolition Walk can last over two hours.”
